As we continue to practice healthy habits during the pandemic, it can be challenging to keep other conditions in check. If you are trying to maintain your weight, watch your cholesterol and blood pressure while travelling, this post is for you. It is possible to stay heathy on the road.

Eat Colorfully

When dining out, choose fruits and vegetables at each meal. Keep in mind that all of the colors of the rainbow should be represented in your daily meal plan. Red, orange and yellow fruits and vegetables offer vitamins and minerals. And leafy greens help with fiber intake.  Of course, you can take a supplement like this one to get vitamins and minerals, but food is the best source.

Keep Hydrated

Travel can sometimes interrupt your hydration schedule. At home, I drink lots of water and keep a water bottle with me. But recently, I travelled to Arizona and Florida where the climate is quite different than my home in Michigan. After a few days of waking up in the middle of the night thirsty, I realized I was not drinking enough water. You can be earth-friendly by bringing a water bottle with you and refilling it.

Get Moving

Vacations are a time to relax and recharge. But that does not mean it is ok to sit around all day. Try some stretching in the morning. Go for a walk each day while you are sightseeing. And try a yoga class at your destination. When I visited Arizona, I took a goat yoga class and really enjoyed it. In Florida, I take a morning yoga class. Staying active helps your muscles and joints and is a mood booster.

Take your Medicine

If you take medicine for your blood pressure, cholesterol or another chronic condition, you need to keep doing that while travelling. Be sure to refill all of your prescriptions before you go so that you have enough medication for the duration of your trip. I use a pill organizer like this one when I travel. Likewise, pack your inhalers or nose drops if you struggle with a respiratory condition.
