A Weekend Family Road Trip from Detroit to Cincinnati

Road trip

Cincinnati is a great city to visit for a family road trip. It’s only about a four-hour drive from Detroit, and there are plenty of things to see and do. We do this trip quite often and always have so much fun. Here is a suggested itinerary for a three-day trip:

Day 1:

  • Arrive in Cincinnati and check into your hotel.
  • Visit the Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden.
  • Have dinner at Taglio Pizza.

Day 2:

  • Visit the American Sign Museum.
  • Play games at Pins Mechanical.
  • Have dinner at Louvino.

Day 3:

  • Visit Eden Park.
  • Hike in the Presidents Grove.
  • Have lunch at The Eagle.
  • Drive back to Detroit.

This is just a suggested itinerary, of course. You can adjust it to fit your family’s interests and needs.

The Cincinnati Zoo and Botanical Garden is one of the best zoos in the country. It has over 5,000 animals from all over the world. The zoo also has a beautiful botanical garden with over 2,000 species of plants. We love the hippopotamus family and the cheetah show.

Taglio Pizza is a great place to get a delicious pizza. They have a variety of toppings to choose from, and their pizzas are always fresh and hot. It is perfect for the dinner the first night and carry out is available. We like to order pizza and watch a movie together in our hotel room.

The American Sign Museum is a museum dedicated to the history of signs. It has a large collection of signs from all over the world. The museum is a great place to learn about the history of advertising and the role that signs have played in our culture.

Pins Mechanical is a bowling alley with a twist. They also have arcade games, pinball machines, and a bar. It’s a great place to have a fun night out with family and friends. Parking is conveniently located across the street. During warner months, you can sit outside at the rooftop bar.

Louvino is a restaurant that serves Southern cuisine. They have a variety of dishes to choose from, including fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and collard greens. My daughter and I like to share a wine flight and our favorite is the rose flight. One of my favorite dishes is the seared scallop with fried green tomatoes. Louivino is within walking distance to Pins so it is often either our first stop before bowling or after it.

Eden Park is a beautiful park in Cincinnati. It has a variety of attractions, including a playground, a carousel, and a Japanese garden. Bring your walking shoes because the park is a great place to go for a walk or a bike ride.

The Presidents Grove is a grove of trees in Eden Park. It is home to statues of all the presidents of the United States. The grove is a great place to learn about American history. We like to walk through the grove and find the trees named after many of our presidents. Last time we were there we saw a deer in the woods.

The Eagle is a restaurant that serves American cuisine. They have a variety of dishes to choose from, including burgers, sandwiches, and salads. The restaurant has a great view of the city and outdoor dining is available weather permitting. The biscuits are simply a must.

This is just a sample itinerary for a family road trip from Detroit to Cincinnati. There are many other things to see and do in Cincinnati, so you can tailor your trip to your family’s interests. Please share your favorite things to do in Cincinnati in the comments.
