Many of us are facing uncertainty as a result of the COVD-19 Pandemic. Whether it is health concerns, unemployment, worry over whether or not our business is going to make it or the stress of balancing work and family during this time. There is no question that the new normal is pulling us in many different directions. Some days are better than others but one thing is for sure, we have to be creative with coping strategies. Wake Up Early

If you are like me, you are sharing space with kids who are now home all the time. My college aged daughter is living with us and studying online. She graduates next month. My son is finishing up high school online and honestly I have not seen this much of him since Freshman year when he had no driver’s license and no car! I love having them home but it is an adjustment for me. I like a little time to myself and also need to exercise so I set my alarm to wake up early before everyone else rises. I use the time to plan my day, write in my journal and exercise.

Stay on a Schedule

If you have some flexibility, try to schedule your work meetings and phone calls during a six hour time block such as 9 to 3. Block some time for lunch as well as a couple of stretch breaks. If you have school aged kids, set them up near you with their own workstation. Talk through their assignments and help them gather the supplies they will need to get going. When you get up to take a break, have them get up too.

Set Boundaries

Establishing boundaries takes some firmness initially but once you do, it will be easier to structure your day. Most experts agree that you should not check e-mail or log on to calls after your workday has ended. Use that time for meal preparation and time with your family. Call aging parents to check in on them. The key to managing work and family is setting expectations and making sure that every task has a place in your day.

Emotions are uncertainty are riding at an all time high so give yourself a break each day and set aside time for yourself. Share your tips for staying sane during the pandemic in the comments section.
