How Global Shipping Works

Global shipping is a much more complicated process than you initially might think. There are so many moving parts to the operation, and one small mistake somewhere in the chain could mean that the whole system grinds to a halt. This is why a robust infrastructure, top-quality, reliable vehicles, and a highly-experienced team are each essential components. Global delivery also comprises several modes of transport, including ocean, air, and land, with a wide variety of different types of ships, planes, and trucks used to get the job done.

Before any movement takes place, there’s a lot of pre-delivery logistics to get through. Proper packing is key to ensure the item gets delivered in the same condition it was sent in, and depending on the size of the shipment, this can mean a great deal of effort (and sometimes, disassembly) to properly secure it. There’s also a lot of paperwork to get through, and sometimes, the shipping company may be required to transport hazardous materials (in which case, personnel and vehicles must be appropriately equipped and extra rigorous standards upheld).

There are also the matters of tracking. Global delivery firms are often dealing with very expensive, very large orders, so the logistics team carefully manages the cargo at every step of the way. This way, if anything is damaged or lost during transit, they can identify how and why it happened with ease and rectify the situation as quickly as possible.
